One thing that would make Toronto Maker Faire special is…seeing more kids at the Maker Faire! So, parents of TO, please take note: Sunday, September 22nd is now Family Day at Toronto Maker Faire. In addition to all the great stuff that will be there on Saturday, on Sunday we’ll have a bunch of activities just for kids.

Family Day at Toronto Maker Faire means all kinds of awesome:

The Next Supergeek Challenge
The Next Supergeek will be hosting an open challenge to all kids 13 years and under. Upon entering the Maker Faire, kids will receive a “Maker Faire Passport” that will send them on an adventure to various stations around the Faire. Those who complete all 5 stations on their passport will be entered into a draw for awesome prizes.
MakerKids Toy Hacking
At our Maker Kids Toy Hacking station, come turn old toys into new creations! Use provided tools to take them apart, and transform them into something entirely new. Humpty Dumpty never had it so good!

We’ll have a collection of toys, craft foam, fabric, LEDs,  assorted body parts and craft materials to augment designs. Bring your own toys!
MakerKids Robot Battle
Hundreds of robots will enter the Maker Kids battle arena, one will leave victorious! Kids and adults are both welcome to enter. Attach balloons to your robot, and arm it with sharp things to pop the competitor’s balloons. The robot with the last balloon wins! Add pins, spinning death wheels, headlights, whatever you come up with. Or make a robot ahead of time and bring it in!
Robot Cavalcade
On Sunday at 12:30, watch our cavalcade of robots! Some will be built at the Faire, some will be coming from elsewhere – and all will be on parade. Have your own robot and want to show it off? Send an email to with a photo of your robot and we’ll be in touch. We promise! 🙂
…and more!
Other kid-friendly activities we’ll have on hand will include booths from the Ontario Science Centre, the Textile Museum, YWCA thanks to our community partner Hive Toronto, and other cool stuff such as Roarockit’s DIY skateboards. This will be a day to remember for any makers (or aspiring makers) in your family!
