AFS Ontario – Foundry In A Box

Commonly misunderstood, foundry metal casting processes are thought to be dirty, boring, and labouring. The aim of this project is to develop interest among the community, particularly the younger generations toward metal casting by providing a safe, exciting and involving experience with sand casting.

Participants would get to cast their own metal component using a mini sand casting kit – Foundry in a Box. The process mainly includes hand-making a sand mould, melting metal ingots, pouring molten metal into sand mould as well as extracting the finished product, all under the guidance of foundry professionals and volunteers. Participants may choose to keep what they make as a souvenir!
