Donview Middle School – Full Tilt STEM Pinball Project

Following our first iteration of this project last year, including winning the Awesome Foundation award last year, three teachers from Donview decided to try the project again. This real-world project was an “integrated” project, covering multiple curriculum areas at once (math, science, language, history/geography, art). Students worked in companies (groups) and each member had a different job (Communications Director, Chief Financial Officer, Engineer, Creative Designer). They used Twitter to document their progress. This year, we have integrated a scratch onscreen animation component, using makeymakey to connect the physical gameplay on the machine to the computer.

We worked on building 13 different pinball machines, however only a few of them were finished before the end of the school year. In any case, the 4 or 5 machines we do have are fully interactive.
