Makerwiz – Hacking Drones by 3D Printing

This summer, Makerwiz will be hacking FPV drones and creating new drone parts out of various novel composite materials for desktop 3D printing, such as flexible and carbon fibre filaments. The goal is to improve the airframes to make them stronger and lighter, thus more crash-resistant and battery efficient, respectively. The hacked drone mods will be tested for airworthiness. We will display the progress of our work in this exhibit.

Hands-on activity at the Festival:
We will discuss the intimate relationship between 3D printing and drone design and applications using a combination of videos and real prototypes. We will also be 3D printing drone parts on site and performing some assembly. Visitors can help install propellers to learn about quadcopter basics.
