What’s happening this week at Maker Festival

The Maker Extravaganza was a blast… but the maker fun isn’t over just yet! The ✨Month of Making✨ is happening all over the city! Here’s a taste of this week’s events:

 

 

COMMUNITY ART SPACE OPENING CELEBRATION
Please join us for the launch of the Community Arts Space as we celebrate some of Toronto’s most innovative emerging artists, curators and architects. Learn about the partners involved in our free and fully accessible summer program, and engage in hands-on activities.

OCAD UNIVERSITY – INCLUSIVE DESIGN RESEARCH CENTRE: INCLUSIVE DESIGN HACKATHON
Participants come up with a solution to problems that have been collected from the disability community. Gain skills in a range of areas: policy design, interface design, software/application specifications, 3D printers and software development toolkits.

 

INTRODUCTION TO INTERACTIVE FILM AND VIDEO
We will look at methods to create interactive cinematic spaces including: starting a video only when a viewer is present, syncing multiple video channels, developing sensor systems for viewer interaction and syncing film and video with physical output such as lights and motors to create works that extend beyond the frame.

YOGA & PAINTING
Release your anxieties (and sweat!), explore your physical, mental, and spiritual senses, and unleash your creativity at our yoga & painting workshop to bring out your summer energy with this 45 minute yoga session! After you open your mind, body and spirit, let your creativity flow! We’ll guide you as you channel your creativity onto a 12×12″ canvas with a 45 minute freestyle painting session.

 

CODEZILLA: CODING FOR KIDS | FASHION MAKERS
During Codezilla’s Fashion Makers workshop, kids will create an interactive fashion boutique or an animated paper doll with a variety of colourful clothes and hair styles. Bring your sense of fun – and flair! – while also developing your graphic design, math and coding skills. Kids program with Scratch, an introductory coding language created by MIT and enjoyed by millions of budding programmers worldwide.

SOUTH COMMON LIBRARY: LEARN TO SEW
Learn the basics of sewing over four sessions. Create a project to keep. Registration required, space is limited. To register, please call 905-615-4770 ext. 2275, or sign up in the library.

NEWMARKET PUBLIC LIBRARY: CANADA 150 MAKER HUB OPEN HOUSE
Highlighting 3D printing, vinyl design and signage, green screen and audiovisual recording equipment – with the specific aim of celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary.

 


FRUIT PUNCH FAMILY CLAY WORKSHOP

Orange you glad you registered for our Fruit Punch clay plate workshop? We sure are! Create up to two clay plates from scratch using low-fire clay and artist quality underglazes.
